Interview - Bruce Talks To Troubled Deva
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=269
When you started the From The Jam project in 2007, how much of a risk did you think you were taking? As some people already know, I played a couple of times with [original Jam drummer] Rick Bucklers band The Gift in 2006, which was basically the line-up that we have now. I knew that Russell Hastings was doing a fantastic job of lead vocals and guitar, and having Dave Moore as the second guitarist and keyboard player added to the sound. So I just gatecrashed the band, really. Obviously there was an element of risk, but I knew we could perform those songs as well as we ever have done, and do them justice.

Review - FTJ @ The Tivoli
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=239
They never made much of an impression here in Oz, but the Jam are one of the quintessential British rock bands. In a period of prolific output in the late 70s and early 80s, the Paul Weller-fronted mod-rockers pumped out six albums in six years, collecting 18 consecutive top forty singles along the way. A record of nine top ten singles further cemented their legacy. Such was the popularity of the Jam in the UK that Just Who Is the 5 OClock Hero? made the British top ten without ever being released at homeit was only available as a Dutch import!

Review - Preserves Taste Just Fine
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=235
THE Jam often fall through the cracks of British music history, at least as far as it's recounted in Australia. Lacking the tabloid appeal of the Sex Pistols or the left-wing ideological pretensions of the Clash, the Jam were a critical element in the punk mosaic, despite not being punks.

Review - FTJ "Exhilarating"
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=230
I suppose that the biggest question going into From The Jams show at The Blender Theatre at Gramercy on Saturday night was this: What was the band going to sound like without Paul Weller on vocals and guitar? The answer being, of course, that they sound different. But that isnt necessarily a bad thing. Judging from the reaction of the crowd to the band, the audience were just glad to hear the songs played live again.

Review - Life Is Timeless: FTJ in New York
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=227
We are a tribute band in a sense, with the advantage that we have two (original) members in our ranks.Pete Townshend wrote that, just a couple of weeks back, in an e-mail Question and Answer session with Who fans. But his words could as easily apply to the Whos greatest offspring, the Jam, and the group currently touring under almost that name.
Review - A Dream Come True
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=226
Who needs Paul Weller - long live the Jam! Don't get me wrong: In my opinion, he is one of the most talented living songwriters and deserves every award the music world has to offer. It's just that this Saturday night, when a teenage dream came true and I heard the Jam live, heard "Eton Rifles," "Private Hell" or "In the Crowd," I did not miss him a second.

Review - Punk Rock, FTJ and Ubiquitous Technology
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=220
Last night, my wife and I went to see From The Jam at the Blender Theatre at Gramercy. This is two-thirds of The Jam, missing only Paul Weller. I last saw The Jam in 1982 at the Aragon in Chicago, and it was a transcendent experience: Paul Weller's guitar-playing was incandescent and inspiring, Bruce Foxton's bass exploded melodically, and the thunderous drumming of Rick Buckler almost caused my knees to buckle. Last night wasn't 1982, but it was still amazing and on occasion, I was 18 again.
Review - That's Entertainment
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=219
When I found out 2/3 of The Jam were on tour performing the legendary UK bands classic songs, I was instantly excited. Although America never quite embraced them, theres no denying that they wrote some really amazing songs. Over the time waiting up to last nights show, my excitement settled and was replaced by the expectations that theyd be just another group of old musicians cashing in on their past without the same passion as their hey-day. Ive seen enough old washed-up musicians to know that these reunion tours are usually a big disappointment, especially when a quintessential member is missing.

Review - FTJ Lee's Palace, Toronto
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=217
LIVE: Hugh Cornwell And From The Jam Still Have What It Takes.I admit I was quite skeptical a year ago when I first reported about bassist Bruce Foxton and drummer Rick Buckler reforming The Jam without the mod-punk band's lead singer, guitarist and chief songwriter, Paul Weller, under the name From The Jam. So I approached their headlining show on Wednesday night with a mix of curiosity and trepidation, but was comforted that former Stranglers singer/guitarist Hugh Cornwell was opening so that even if From The Jam lived down to my lowest expectations, the evening still wouldn't be a write-off.
Review - FTJ @ The Abbey - Chicago, IL
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=216
As many of you are well aware, I wasnt initially fond of the idea that Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler would forge ahead without Paul Weller and tour as From The Jam. A few heated exchanges with one of our UK readers, an interview with Bruce Foxton, and a lot of positive press later, I was more than ready to experience what sold out crowds across the pond have been raving about.
Review - (Not so many light years) From The Jam

Just got back from seeing 2/3 of the Jam perform as From The Jam. Back in 1991 I saw 1/3 of the Jam when Paul Weller came through Seattle. Based on a show-to-show comparison 2/3 is better than 1/3. Yeah, I know, I'm surprised too.

Though the idea about a Weller-less Jam embarking on a world tour playing the songs that made them famous over 25 years ago may seem like a bad idea to some (out of hand, I was thinking along the lines of "dubious, at best", I'm quite happy to say that the From The Jam gig at the Aladdin on Wednesday night was indeed a great night out.

Interview - Ultimate-Guitar.Com
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=208
One of the most important and influential British bands of the late 70s and early 80s were The Jam. Between the release of their debut album In The City in 1977 to their last studio effort The Gift in 1982, The Jam scored 18 straight top 40 singles in the UK alone, including four number 1 hits. In the wake of the bands demise, their musical legacy began to influence a new breed of up and coming young British rockers from Blur to Kaiser Chiefs, who continue to keep The Jams tradition of three-minute, hook-driven British guitar pop alive.

Kingsley Harris, band promoter and curator of the East Anglia Music ArchiveCD of the Year - Locally it would have to be the Rory McVicar album simply called Rory McVicar. Overall, that's a difficult one but I'll plump for Seattle's coolest, Band Of Horses album Cease To Begin. Gig of the Year - I've seen a lot of great bands this year, but I really enjoyed From The Jam. I'm not trying to kid anyone, it was just a trip down memory lane but the atmosphere was electric. Low point - The Live Earth concert at Wembley. When are people going to realise that if we are going to save the planet it has to be done unconditionally. Review - Rock City, Nottingham
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=184
35 years ago, a band sprang out of Surrey called the Jam, fronted by Paul Weller on lead vocals and guitar with Bruce Foxton on bass and Rick Buckler on Drums. After 17 years of success, the three disbanded and went off their own ways after disagreements and side projects. Years later, Buckler formed a band called The Gift which would play Jam material, which Foxton would sometimes appear playing bass on live shows. This year, the two decided on recording some songs and touring the UK under the name From the Jam on which they would be accompanied by fellow Gift members David Moore (playing Bass and Keyboards) and Russell Hastings (filling Wellers place on guitar and lead vocals). And so on the cold Tuesday night of December 4th, Nottingham was fortunate to be one of the tour destinations.

Picture the scene..a wide eyed 14 year old and his mates, high on nothing more than adrenaline and the anticipation of their first live gig experience. We've sat in our bedrooms and played the singles, In The City and Modern World albums to death, analysed every inch of the vinyl and sleeves. We've read the spiral groove messages over and over imagining some deep mystical meaning and pawed and poured over the lyric sheets and NME/Sounds interviews...recognising that we've found a band that gives a voice to our teenage anxieties and frustarations who play with the passion and intensity that screams 'we mean it maaan!' but without the destructive nihilism. Flashback to '76 and the London-centric punk explosion is catapulted into our living rooms via the infamous Bill Grundy interview. The following day the Daily Mirror banner headline 'the filth and the fury' surplants the burgeoning youth sub-culture into the British public consciousness. The rollercoaster ride begins.

Paul Weller may have cut all communications with former Jam bandmates, Rick Buckler and Bruce Foxton, the day the band split back in 1982, but that hasn't stopped the two other members picking up the pieces some 25 years later to hit the road for a Jam revival tour that has been welcomed with open arms by fans of the seminal Brit band."I was playing with my band The Gift, and Bruce was on the same bill in a different band and each night we'd get together on stage to do a few Jam songs, just for fun," explains Rick.

Wallowing in nostalgia with a Weller-less Jam
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=102
From The Jam, The IronworksTHE fact that, while still attracting in a respectable crowd, a Paul Weller-less Jam could pull in far less than say a Hugh Cornwell-less Stranglers, probably says a lot about just how big a gap returning band members Bruce Foxton on bass and Rick Buckler on drums had to fill.

Rock Sellout Interviews Bruce Foxton
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=84
I had the grand pleasure of participating in a late night phone call with Bruce Foxton last night. Bruce is, of course, best known as bass player for The Jam as well as Stiff Little Fingers & Casbah Club. Hes recently completed a successful tour with Rick Buckler in a Weller-less From The Jam. The tour quickly sold out all 20 dates so FTJ have just announced an additional 21 UK dates for November/December.

Twenty-five years ago, Paul Weller pulled the plug on one of the most successful groups to have emerged from the punk and new wave era. At a time when a stream of veteran rock stars are touring - from the Police to Debbie Harry and, of course, the Spice Girls - there is still one band for whom the chances of any sort of full-scale reunion look slim: the Jam.Thirty years ago, Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler were signed to Polydor Records and set out on the path to fame, but they have not played together since December 1982.

From the Jam ****Liquid Room FOR a lot of people, Paul Weller was The Jam. That's a big pity, because those people probably didn't bother to go to the Liquid Room last night, in which case they missed a real event. Two thirds of The Jam - bassist, Bruce Foxton and drummer, Rick Buckler - reunited with their most important members: the audience.
The Jam Reunite Sans Paul Weller
http://www.brucefoxton.com/news.php?action=fullnews&id=40
Although not wide known this side of the Atlantic, the Jam bridges the gap in English music from the Beatles to Oasis. Paul Weller, the band's chief songwriter and voice, abruptly split the band in 1982 when the band was enjoying its most commercial success. Weller then started the ill-received 'The Style Council' which scored only a fraction of the adoring audience he had while in the Jam. Weller went on to great solo success in the 1990's and into this decade, and has always shunned a talk of a comeback. The other two members, not waiting anymore on the 'modfather', decided to go it alone and the comeback of the highly influential three piece was together again tonight (sans Weller).
From The Jam to the present

For the 500 or so men and women packed into Oxford's Zodiac, this was a VERY special occasion. Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler's first UK tour together in 25 years. Russell Hastings (Vocals/Guitar) told us, during the sound check, that he expected to see grown men cry and he wasn't mistaken. I just hadn't intended to be one of them, but as Buckler, Foxton, Hastings and Dave Moore strolled onto the stage, I was overcome. I just couldn't help myself. This was going to be an emotional evening...
